I noticed last weekend that my front axle has fluid leaking out on the pasenger side. I believe that it is coming out of the end of the shaft where the actual shaft leaves the housing. I noticed it because it is dripping down on the inside of my pasenger side tire. I have had the Jeep since last August and right before I got it they had to replace the seals. I have all of the paperwork from it and it ended up costing them $587.58. 300 dollars of this was in labor. I was hoping that I would be able to do the repair myself and save a good bit. I will put a list of the parts that they orderd at the end, but their is no discription of the work done. Does anybody think that this problem could be the same one that they atempeted to repair before I got it. Also do you think that it is something that could be acomplished at home for less.
The parts are:
4 Bearing JLM603013Z Race
4 Bearing JLM603048E Gasket
2 Whell Seal
2 Whell seal (diffrent part number)
("used" has been scractched out)Spider Gear

I would appreciate any advice on weather or not this is a fairly easy fix or if it is worth the 300 dollars to get it fixed.

TIA
Doug

Nothing pisses a guy off more than paying someone to do a job that you have to turn around and do again! The first thing I would do is contact the shop that performed the job to begin with. Express just how dissatisfied you are with their workmanship. If they can fix it, AGAIN, ensure they don't utilize used parts. If you are willing, it seems only a new seal is needed. To do this, raise your XJ, remove both tires, drain your diff, remove diff cover, remove c-clip off front axle pass. side, remove brake caliper assembly off pass. side, remove cotter key and spindle nut, slide off rotor. Whew! You can now remove the pass. side axle shaft. Slide the axle shaft out and remove bearings/seals. Be carefull with the bearings, you may be able to re-use them. Look for tarnished marks, discoloration, obvious dammage. Re-pack bearings, install new seals, and slap the whole assembly back in. It is a relatively easy process, but make sure you have the proper tools before begining. If you need more detailed advice, let me know, I'll email you. Later, ROKSURF
