OK heres the deal. I own a '92 Cherokee Sport 4.0HO, NP231 Part Time T-Case, D30 Front, Chry 8.25 Rear, Tranny???? I would like to do a filter and fluid change like yesterday but I dont know if I have the AW-4 or not. It is an Automatic with OverDrive but that is about the most of my knowledge on this thing. How do I tell which tranny I have? I already bought the kit for the AW-4 so I figure I will just try it and if the gasket doesnt fit I know what I have. Will that work? What are the pros and cons of the AW-4? Thanks guys (and gals) in advance, I apprecate any input. XXJ

Should be the Asin-Warner-4 (AW4) ..
Very solid auto which tollerates much heavier rides w/ more HP & torque --
When you're dropping the pan, the only "goofy" part is how the dipstick tube connects to the front assenger's corner of the pan instead of through the tranny body like many others -- no fear there -- there's a slip-joint a little ways up the dipstick tube itself.
Nice thing for your today's chore is that most of the AW4s come with a drain plug limiting the shower-effect of draining at the pan gasket.
About the only drawbacks (IMHO) is that it's a sloppy shifter and due to that , probably gets a little hotter than it otherwise would -- they do respond well to the installation of an aftermarket cooler (hint). I rather enjoy their endemic electrical control - old-school tech don't appreciate it much.

Can't really recommend a manufacturer (though I've instaled Hayden's and PermaCool's with no issues...)
My personal opinion is to install the biggest thing that'll fit - nothing rated less than 10,000lb GVW -- so it'll probably be easier to pop-off your grill and see shat'll fit, then shop -- Try to get the unit to install on the pasenger's side of the radiator so that it will have a consistant source of cooling air (since the driver's side fan only runs w/ A/C or above a set water temp).

Alright I'll keep that in mind, Thanks alot!!! By the way, that AW4 is fun. Took me along time just trying seperate the d@mn dipstick and ended up just unbolting the whole dipstick and bringing it all out. Thanks again XXJ
