View Full Version : One tire wearing out quickly

I put a set of Cooper Discoverer AT's on my 1996 ZJ last November (13,000 miles ago), and they have been really good so far, except for one small problem. There has been excessive tread wear in the middle 1/3 of the tread on only one of the tires - almost down to the wear indicators. All the tires have been meticulously maintained at 35 psi and rotated once since new. The offending tire was on the right rear and was then moved to the right front (after the wear trend began).

There has been no rough usage or abrupt starts, and the other tires have been wearing properly. I notice no harshness or bumpiness in the ride, and the tires handle like new. I have used Cooper tires for many years in all applications with no problems so far (until this one). I will be placing a call to my tire guy on Monday morning to see what he says.

Any ideas on this? Anybody experienced anything similar to this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Jerry

If I remember right that might be a sign of over inflation. I don't have that chart infront of me but i am pretty sure that is a sign of over inflation. Just double check the pressure in that tire

I took it in to the tire shop today (where the tires were bought), and found that the problem is apparently a defect that Cooper and its distributor will cover for me. Apparently this is a very rare problem; they had never seen it before on a set of this type of tire, especially considering the inflation has been maintained properly and the alignment is good.

Jerry,

Glad to see that everything worked out for the better.
