Hey, my roommate just got his 2002 liberty back after a nasty accident, and his check engine light is on.

1) Is there a way he can reset the computer himself? Can he disconnect the battery, press the brakes, reconnect the battery and see if the light comes back on?

2) Is there any way for his Jeep to display the particular fault code? With my 2001 Wrangler, I can flip the ignition a few times and it will display the codes on my LCD screen. Does his Liberty have a similar feature?

I think the dealer has to read the fault codes, but to clear them you just leave the battery diconnected for 10 minutes.

It may be in your friends best interest to go to the dealer and have the code checked and cleared by them. If his liberty was involved in an accident there may be a sensor or something else that was dammaged and not found yet.
