I have the rig in for the ball joint recall and the dealer called to say the brake rotors were "rusted on" and he had to order new rotors. I said how did this happen? the response I don't know. Without seeing them I don't understand how rorors "rust on". All the rotors I have removed and replaced (on non jeep vehicles) had rotors that were bolted to a hub. Anyone else had this rusted on problem?

If they are like the rotors on my Grand Cherokee, they just slide on. Remove the caliper and then pull the rotor. The center hole rusty onto the hub and can be very tight. Sometimes you can pop them with a hammer, sometimes PB Blaster will help dislodge them. Other times the blue tip wrench is what you need. Using a torch, heat the rotor around the center hub. This will cause the rotor to swell and release off the hub and come off in your hand.

Any half-a$$ mechanic should be able to remove rotors. If they can't then it is time to find a new mechanic. I would not trust any of the repairs that that particular shop is doing for you.

It happens...just means that the rust makes them hard to get off. But like bulldog says any decent mechanic will know to heat them and or use a hammer and tap lightly until they come dislodged. Be sure to have them or you use never sieze or at least a grease behind the rotor and on the hub that the rotor goes over. Keep this from happening again. Not a big deal, they just want to suck more money out of you the way it sounds. DIY if they can't figure it out....it's easy enough

can someone please help me with a question....i am replacing the ball joints on a 1989 cherokee laredo. i have the old ones out and need to know how to the new ones go in. i am having trouble when i have the ball joints in getting the hub lined up with the axle. if i remove the ball joints and line up the hub and axle (front), i don't know how to get the ball joints installed because there is no room left for me to do it on the lower ball joint, but i can get the upper one in...what is the proper replacement procedure??? thanks to anyone for help on this, i appreciate it!!!
