View Full Version : Speadometer RE-calibration Gears
With the installation of a 3" lift, and the addition of 31" BFG's on my 97 XJ auto, I would now like to recal. my speado. Cherokee America has the matrix showing which gear to which axle ratio. It says I need the 32 tooth gear for the 3.55 axle. I can't find it at the dealers. They only have 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 34 gears. Does anybody have any input or suggestions? THANKS

tell them to get you part number 56027632.
But to be honest when I had 31s and 3.55s my speedo was only off by about 1-2 mph at 60. I didn't have to deal withthe speedo until I went to 33s.
Have you checked the speedo to see if it is off yet? Simply drive at 60 mph for a few miles and watch the mile markers.

4 or 5 mph at 60 mph ??
If you know your stock gear tooth count you should be able to calculate to be sure that the 32 is the right one bfore you commit to the order... that is if your speedo was right with the stock gear...
As a proportion:
(stock tooth count) * (stock tire diameter) / (new tire diameter) = (new gear tooth count)
