I have read many forums and I have read many write ups on the OME lift kits, but I was wondering it seems that they only make a 2 1/2" kit for my XJ (89 Limited). I'm not going to ever get into rock crawling I just like to head to the hills and get away from society and be in the outdoors with a few friends (and family). The XJ is my Wife's daily driver during the week and My Toy on the Week-ends. So my big question is: Is the OME kit really worth the extra money? Plus I would need to get at least another inch or two higher to get 31's on without any rubbing. I just wanted to know if anyone had this kit installed and what your impressions were of it. I know they offer different spring packs for the rear as well and so when I do get into the hills my rig is pretty well weighted down. Would I want the heavier rated springs for the rear? Sorry its so long it just it's a bit o' money to spend and I want to make sure i'm getting what I need and want from ride, handling, and wear and tear. Thank You very Much,
Tyler
(P.S. I have to say I like this forum much better than the others I've been on)

I just ordered my OME lift today. I think I am in about the same situation, minor rocks and trails with a daily driver. I was going to opt for the cheaper, but everything I read and heard said it's a very plush ride with great articulation. I decided that I will only have to buy it once, I am pretty sure no regrets if the ride is what they say it is. I also know this is the proper way to do a lift instead of adding blocks and spacers alone.

You might not have to add the extra inch or two to stuff the 31's because the wheel wells on your 89 are a llittle bigger than the newer models. You could always extend the bumps stops 1/2" to keep it from rubbing, but it will limit your articulation, or add a small spacer in the front and a short shackle in the rear to give it a little boost.
Thay say the medium rated springs are basically like your stock, where the firmer will ride a little harsher, but compensate for the weight. I took the medium.

I ordered from www.rocky-road.com, they have the best price anywhere and they specifically know about the XJ. as for more info on lifting, I found a link in this Forum at http://members.aol.com/Stvns/XJhelp1.html

Sorry this is so long, but I have been researching this for a while, now I just have to do it myself...

Hope this helps
Bart

You will be happy with it. The Ride is superior then the others especially for a daily driver.

I installed and ome lift about a year ago, its a great kit, the reason I went with ome was I didn't want to loose the ride quality since its my daily driver, I think it rides and drives better then it did stock, I also put commache shackles on to get a little extra in the back, (recommed to me by some jeep guys in juneau) and put on goodyear work horse 31X10 50's they only rub when I turn all the way one way or the other.
I have some good info left over from when I did my research if your interested I can email it to you.
I thinks it was worth the money
