I had to replace the entire cooling system where I went to a duel core radiator, other than that a fuel pump and injectors, a rear diff, a fuel pumprelay $11 and a ignition control module are all I have replaced.

Ive got 122,000 on my '96, had to replace the fuel pump, was bad and the body harness shorted out, just cut it off and spliced in wire between the body harness and the fuel pump, no more stupid connector, and my converter is taking a dump on me, other than that I have done nothing to the engine or drivetrain, just like my ole '84, she just wont die, best damn vehicle anybody could own, been riding and driving in Cherokees since '83 when my dad bought his brand new one, I swear by em........... there's only one.

well i'm not doing to good i got 188,00 and i had it for a month and i put maybe like 600 miles on it and blew the clutch. i just got it fixed and put 130 miles on it and just blew the engine. and we started to take the engine apart and it was full of sluge. and baked on oil and the injectors were cloged so no oil go to the valve. but he when i ran i tore up my friends 92 wrangler. man my 84 cherokee chief can go through anything and its stock. oh yeah i'm also going to try to put in a chevy 350 with th 350 tranny. instead of having the original 2.8 v6 and t5 manual tranny.

I have a 179,000 on my 1992 XJ 4.0

Its been a fantastic vehicle. I bought it when I was 19 and for the first couple years I was very hard on it. Drove the heck out of it. Took me a few years to wise up and be a little more responsible. (tread lightly)

Repairs,

Harmonic Balancer @ 130,000
Thermostat @ 130,000
Water Pump & Powersterring Pump @ 160,000
Rear Main Seal @ 178,000
Idler Pully @ 179,000

I don't think thats too bad, Most of those repairs were because abuse. Like I said I drove the heck out of this thing, Always off road pushing it to the limits.

And its still just as stong as the day I bought it. Great compresion and the tranny & transfer case are still strong. However, I truly beleive this is my secret weapon, I am a very firm believer in Dura-Lube. In all fashions. I add it to the Oil & Tranny about every 20,000-30,000 thousand miles. (Even though the box says 50,000) I even use the fuel injector cleaner version. I truly beleive it has kept the inside of my engine clean and free of wear.

I know there are some Pro-long & Slick 50 fans but if you do your homework Dura-Lube out-protects them all.

Ok enough Pluging

I think Jeep is making a mistake replacing the XJ with these little libertys. They are about the size of Honda CRV, Cargo space is a joke. Oh well,

Honestly I would have rather seen them produce the Drakar instead.

Timmy
06-28-2001, 08:39 AM
I agree that the liberty is kind of a joke, it does resemble a rav-4 or crv somewhat, which is just sick but it is actually taller and longer than a cherokee. I still agree though, a jeep with IFS? Sick just sick, will never be a real Jeep in my opinion no matter how capable they claim it is.

I have 110,000 miles on my '93 XJ Sport. Only thing ever replaced was radiator and spark plugs. Cherokees were built for off-road.
As for Libertys... they were built so Daimler Chrysler could compete with Chevy Trackers, CRVs, and all the other "SUVs" that have one function... car pooling. V6, rack and pinion, IFS?!?! Is this a Dodge Caravan or a Jeep? Well, all i can say is that It will NEVER define what a true jeep is made of.

166,000 miles, adding 3,000 a month commuting, all original except for the cooling system upgrade at 160k.
It must be OK under the hood as I continually get 20+ mpg. It's a great truck.

We have 190,000 on our 88 Cherokee Chief. They only major work done to it up to now was replacing the original clutch and adding power steering to the little 2.5 liter engine. Unfortunately, I think that i need to rebuild her very soon. :(

166K on my '88, and now have toreplace the trnas and t-case, due to making the mistake of letting Dad drive it without explaining to him how the t-case shifting works.

Well, since this topic appears to be back to life, I picked up my 96 XJ in Nov 2000 with 69,000 miles, and now have 123,000 on it.
96 XJ 4.0L, auto, 30" BFG AT/ko, 2" Rubicon BB

I had something around 179,000 on the 89 XJ Pioneer (4.0L, 5-speed) when I sold it in Nov 2000, picked it up at ~75,000 from the first owner in 1994.

95,000 on a 93 Country 4.0 - just bought it, but it's ran Mobile1 synthetic since birth, so I hope its going to have a long life. It's going to have to turn it up a notch, though ( to eleven 8) ) because I'm going to be pulling a 24' boat all over creation this summer.

I have four XJs curently in my "family" and my highest-mileage one would have to be my first one, the 88 Chief, with just over 210K right now. It got a new long-block two summers ago, and a new tranny and t-case last fall. Still runs like a champ.

My 96 Sport Police Package unit has almost 150K on it right now, and got a new engien and a trany/t-case rebuild at 125K, so it wil have quite a while before I should have to do anything drastic with it.

My 87 Base Model XJ is the only one that I have not had to do anything as of yet, save for new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, engine or driveline-wise. It has the 4-banger in it, which was overhauled right before I bought it last fall, and it gets around quite well for being the smallest engine in my "family"

And, last bu not lesat, the 87 Laredo, which just received a newly-built stroker engine three weeks ago and is now awaiting its turn to visit the paint booth. I decided to go with the original color for now cause it's cheap and easy to care for, unlike some fo the metallic colors I had under consideration, but the future paint job for this rig is eventually gonna be Candy Black Cherry, someday.......

I will be taking photos of my Jeeps sometime this month and may even get to take one of them down to Camp Jeep in July in Branson, MO, so hope to maybe meet and see some of you there!!

0 miles on my 86 Pioneer! and still not running like a champ. Needs new motor at the moment! Had 160+ on the first 50+ on the second ( bad rebuild! ) I am not even sure what is wrong with it. Oil pressure erratic and over heats within minutes. But plan on having it running this summer come hell or high water! :x :!:

Well, the odometer on my '92 reads 212k, but the engine was replaced at 206k with a I6 that had 76k. Entire clutch was jsut replaced 2 weeks ago, slave cyl went bad. I think the enigne's rear main seal is going, albeit slowly. Actually i think the only reason that the orig engine went was because the people who had it before me did very little routine maintenance on it. Personally, I like to do all the stuff before the suggested time, like change oil at 2500 instead of 3000 mi. otherwise, running like a champ! Just dumped some engine cleaner in it, drove to philly (about 300 mi) and had no problems doing 80-85 most of the way. Got about 21 mpg, passed uphill in 5th gear; was probably the nicest drive i'v ever had on the PA turnpike!

120,000 miles, and drives like new.

I am in the middle of a mid-life re-furb - 3" lift, new wheels, re-sealing underside where original sealer is coming loose, and may re-model some of the insrtument switches.
