Well I have a few questions.
First off are EGR valves a Dealer only item I was quoted $85.00 (it's for an 89 XJ Limited)
Secondly I believe my EGR is Leaking its either that or a crack in the manifold but it sounds like the leak is close to the EGR. Is this a common Problem?
And Last Will a Bad EGR give you an eratic Idle and sometimes a hard starting situation?
Thanks For any Help.

Use a length of 5/16 (or larger) diameter tubing to pinpoint your noise...
The exhaust header on the pre-HO 4.0XJs is prone to cracking where the 5th and 6th port tubes join the runner. Anything hitting the front pipe will apply a crazy amount of load to the "crotch" welds. Even if nothing his the pipe, very few of the factory front hangers are still working (or even installed) so the entire weight of the system in front of the t-case crossmember (cat & forward) hang on those welds.
The EGR valve should be available aftermarket, but honestly, I've never looked. price won't be too much better (maybe closer o $60 - again, dunno for sure)... If you get to a point where this is a for-sure need, I could see if I could work a deal and ship you one if you can't find better pricing ...
The idle problems are less noticeable with TPI, but they will happen and actually starting should be better! (RenixIIs have a problem getting enough air into the plenum to draw the injected fuel into the cylinder - since this particular systems starts from mostly ROM values, there's no sensor input to the fuel metering, except for CTS, MAT for the initial start - TPS must be at idle). Allowing more air into the plenum (without affecting changes to the TPS signal) actually helps to start the damn thing.
Try getting a gasket for your egr and pulling it down and cleaning the valve areas -- you'll be able to see if it's sealing then... Could even do a leak-test with solvent or water or something ...
