My stock stereo/cassetee player is on the frits. It seems to have a mind of its own. So, since I need to upgrade the radio in the near future, I might as well do it right. What speakers seem to work well in the Cherokee's? Do you need to use a sub? It seems like 5-1/4 rounds are all that fit without making any mods. Any recomendations, brand/model wise? How about amp placement? Thanks (97 XJ sport)

not sure if the "new ones" have space, but I've installed a few amp under the passenger's side of the rear seat bottom...

The old ones also have space in the passenger's side interior panel (behind the rear seat) for a sub (or changer)...

It all depends on how much you want to spend. You can do anything with enough money.

I'll be on a strict budget. I do have a 360 watt amp (90x4) and another 60 watt amp (30x2) collecting dust, waiting to be used. I thinking on a decent tape deck with cd controlls (future changer), EQ, and then starting out with replacement speakers, then possibly adding a sub down the road. Any suggestions on decent speakers that will fit the factory locations? Can you get, or build a sub that will run off 60 watts? Thanks

I put a pair of 6.5 3 ways in the front and a pair of 5.25 in the back. 60 watts isn't much for a sub. It would power an 8 in ok but when you crank it up you'll be getting a lot of distortion going to the speaker which will reduce its life.
