ok... I plan on mounting my CB on the ceiling. What I'm wondering is how should i secure it to the ceiling? I was thinking self-tapping screws but i don't want to go through the roof. Has anyone mounted it to the ceiling and if so how? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

thanx

I'd got to a wrecker that has a lot of XJs and see if you can find one with the headliner missing. At least then you can see what you are working with and where you can attach to.

My web page is down for now so I can't show any pictures but that's exactly what I did.

What I did was make a metal plate to put on top of the headliner, ran the screws through and attached the mounting bracket to the screws. The metal plate on top keeps the screws from pulling through the cardboard and fabric of the headliner. It appears to be holding up reasonably well but It's only been in there a few months. I did put a plug on the power wire so I can pull the CB down when it's not in use. (90% of the time)

At some point, I am going to go back and put in a different metal strip above the headliner. I figured out that if I have a longer one, I can secure it where the clips for holding in the sun visors are. There is a bracket attached to the metal roof that the screws holding the clips are attached to. I can put a metal (or wood or whatever) strip between the two clips and have the CB mounting screws poke down through the headliner where they are now. That would make the mount more secure.

As far as running power to the CB up there, make sure your ground (black) wire is as short as possible. I ran mine about 2-3" to one of the brakets that the visor clip attaches to. That keeps the engine noise down a lot better than any other solution.

I have mine mounted in a modified center console along wit my scanner, EMS-band radio, and the control panel for my lightbar, but I do want to haang it from the ceiling, and I was told that it'd be a good idea to get an overhead console from a Limited Cherokee or a newer Sport model and use that as a template, or odify it to fit your radio.
