chris s helped me discover my problem with a rattle from the tcase shifter. my body lift came with a shifter bracket that located it too close to the side. my question is: if it is rattling on the body, can i grind it down or what. im not very mechanically inclined. it is prob a dumb question. thanks anyway.

What exactly are you planning on grinding?

Just wanted to make sure you weren't going to grind the linkage. Yeah you can do it but do you want to? Are there any other options? Can you switch the bracket around? Maybe you can add cushoning between the bracket and the body. I'd investigate all othe options and then grind the body as a last resort.

I have this exact same problem.. When you fix it, let me know what you did, I have tried a couple of things and nothing has worked.

There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulliten) for the problems you are describing. The transfer case linkage is making the noise. The TSB involves putting a spring in the linkage to stp the noise.

Oh, I didn't know that there's a tsb out on this. My mechanic - not from my DC dealership, but one with his own shop - fixed my rattling t-case shifter exactly that way. It was rattling before, then he installed the SYE and had half of the case out, then it rattled differently, but now it's like new. The spring-thing works, but I can't help ya with the location of the spring, how and where it is attached. Sorry.

Hey, check out this website. It will tell you all the TSB's for any vehicle.

It's hard to describe where the spring goes, but in case the dealer won't fix it for you because of your mods, don't worry, it's not that hard to do yourself.
You can buy the kit from the dealer around $20.00, but you can also go to Pep Boys, or whereever and buy just a spring for about $1.00.
My dealer wouldn't fix mine because of my mods.
If you need more help let me know, I'll take pictures and e-mail or post them.

If you give them the TSB #, they will be able to look it up and find the part#. Then if they don't want to fix it for you, just take the number to the parts Dept. and they'll sell you the kit. 20.00
But like I said, you may just want to get a 1.99 spring at you local part store. I'll get the camera out and get some pictures posted.
In the kit are new hard plastic bushings also. A real Pain in the a$$ to replace. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change them.

The spring I got at Pep Boys was not a weak spring, it had some strength. Just get one (if you go that route) that fits over the linkage shaft. (The one I got may be a little too long and strong, but it stopped the noise)

If you get the dealer kit from the TSB, its the same, you'll just have a rubber boot over the spring.
If you look at the picture to the left you can see the 'kit' spring. (Yes I originally put it in the wrong spot. (Like I said, no instructions with the kit.
Good luck, if you need any more help let me know.
