I have a 84 CJ7 for myself and my wife wanted it so as a compromise I bought her one for herself. The Title claims it to be a 82 CJ7. The Jeep needs a frame off restoration. Problem: The tub that is now on it is pre 80's the roll bar is 80's as is the motor and transfer case. The axles are pre 80's short track AMC20 and DANA30. The trani is an unknown CHrysler automatic. evrything else is junk. What I ask of the group is: is their a way to determine the year of the frame so I know what year products to shop for and have an idea if they will fit. replacement CJ7 tubs
cover the whole time frame that they were built but in real life they changed around 1980, does this make a differance? What
about wiring is there a differance from pre 80 to the 80's?
Any help out there?

Yes some minor changes did happen but nothing to speak of. Some 82 still had the narrow track axles. The tranny is either a tf904 or tf999. The only real thing i can think of that would matter with the frames would be the size of the hole for the body mounts

1976 to 1978 CJ had a barrel style fuse block. 1976 to 1977 used a BID electronic control system an a clip on distributor cap. :(

1979 started the pull/plug type fuse block. Was basically the same till 1986. :)

1078 was the start of the Dura Spark ignition control module and screw on distributor cap. :)

1980 to 1983 saw the start of some electronic polution controls on the engine.

1984 was the start of the dreaded computerized emmission controls complete with the imfamous Carter BBD with electronic mixture control. :(

I'm going to have to check what went on in 1978. I don't have a 78 harness at home but I do have the rest. Don't ask why. Jeep's just keep on showing up in my barn.
