i will be using the 5.0 HO from an '88 police interceptor mustang that i have lying around, and i want to know how to make it work with a jeep t-5 tranny, i would rather cancel the swap than use a hydralic clutch. if possible i would like to find a way to make the jeep fork work with a mustang bellhousing and clutch, but since the fork operates the opposide way that would be a little hard.

how many different ways are there to put a t-5 and a 5.0 into an '84 CJ7? i can figure out the mounts and the output to transfer case part myself.

May I first congradulate you on your choice of swaps. I am in the process of doing the same swap now. Mustangs used the T-5 with the 5.0 so all you need to do is find an older mustang in the junk yard that has a mechanical clutch and get the parts you need. As for mounts check out MORE off road, I got mine from them and they are amazing real HD and they eliminate all of the guess work in locating the engine, and after all the time you would put into custom mounts they are almost cheaper. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thew_77@nacnac.com

Where are you located?

i didnt notice i hadnt set a location in my profile, iam in wisconsin. i actually have a mustang project here, and iam considering borrowing its transmission, its an '88 WC T-5 with the cobra gearset and a steel input bearing retainer, however that still doesnt give me any good ideas on how to change from a pushrod linkage to a cable pulled linkage. and since the stang t5 has the wrong butt end on it and even with the cobra gears (3.35 1st) its still geared kinda crappy. also to simplify things, and because the engine is nearly a shortblock iam gonna just slap an edelbrock intake and carb on it and let it go at that.

and right now it looks like any hope of conversion is stalled till well into next summer, cuz my XJ is basically being an *** (i think it knows I want to sell it) and the CJ needs new front brakes and wheel u-joints and some drive shaft u joints, and a new speedo cluster thingy and the steering is outright junk and lotsa other crap, and i gotta figure out if this weber carb is running right since there was a half assed attempt at removing the emissions equipment when they installed it and that left the thermo thing and the egr open and i think some of the other stuff is routed wrong and the wiring is just scary, i think iam just gonna plug up all the vac ports and use filters on the valve cover, and iam considering painless wiring at this point. my dimmer switch shot out sparks and then my interior lights started working if thats any indication.

Sounds like fun to me. Why can't you use the mustang bellhousing on the Jeep tranny? Give Advsanced Adapters a call the specilize in this stuff. Good luck. I will have pics of mine soon it has kinda been put on hold since I went back to school.
