locking hubs

front left hub on my '77 CJ5 won't budge to engage into 4wd. front right will though. any suggestions as to what's broke?? front end is also making a whining noise...

Had the same thing happen a couple of times with my Bronco and my CJ. Replace the lockout and should solve your problems.

would that cause the whining noise that is coming from the front end??

Yes my bronco whined bad and I replaced the berrings to try to stop it with no avail, but it ended up being the hub that caused the noise, avter I replaced the hub the noise stopped.
