How long ago was the tranny serviced?
It might pay off to have it flushed. Maybe or maybe not.
I haven't heard of anybody else's doing that.

How many miles on the tranny? If it's over say 80k, I'd say it MAY be time for a rebuild. Clutches tend to go out with miles and heat.
It also may just be a bad "OD OFF" switch on your dashboard, or the wiring associated with it. Have you checked/cleaned the electrical connections (harness) on the tranny yet? You may want to clean it first. Is the OD OFF switch light working as it used to?
Hope that helps,
Kevin

I have 83K on it. I think the OD off switch works fine. The light doesnt go on when the tranny dont wanna shift. But once it does I experamented a few times and it went out of OD right away "as it should". So I dont think it is the switch. The think that is making me wonder it it is shifting PERFECTLY all the time.... exept for OD. It downshifts and upshifts great!
Would a tranny cooler do the trick?

Ok, you lost me. Are you saying that you are waiting for the light to come on when the transmission does not automatically shift to OD? That's how it sounded to me...
Just for clarification purposes, when the OD OFF button is pressed, the light comes on and the trans is kept from shifting to OD (or shifted back to 3rd if you are already in OD). When you hit the button again, the light will go out and the trans will shift into OD, assuming you are moving at a greater speed than about 43 mph (at least that's the shift speed on mine). I don't want to sound like I'm being condescending...I'm not. I think I may be confused by your wording.
A tranny cooler won't do a thing for you if the trans won't shift correctly. Living in NY, I doubt that heat buildup is your challenge.

Im sorry if I worded it wrong. I was saying that when the tranny does not shift into OD the light dose not light up. But if I press the button then it lights up. I was told the horrible news that I need a rebuild. The thing id I am a collage student have VERY limited funds and my T-case and my Tranny just died at the same time! I just got these final questions....
1. How much for a rebuild?
2. How long do I have before it compleatly goes on me? "I know this is an estamit"
3. Should I avoid driving at all cost? Or is it Ok to drive?

Now I am confused! I just called my tranny guy and he said " I servised that tranny a month ago and there was almost no metal fragments at all. You have a healthy tranny." That was great news! He said it might just be a "selinoid" Whatever that is. Could that be it? He said it would be about 200$

Your problem could well be the Overdrive Solenoid. On my transmission it is molded together with 2 others in one assembly, so replacing it might be more involved and costly. I would let your tranny guy have at it.

I thought I read that the tranny won't go into OD if the operating temp is too hot or cold. Does it happen all the time or could it be failing just during over and under temp conditions? Regards, John V.

Lately it has been going into OD in the morning but then not for the rest of the day. I dont knoe. I am gonna try getting the selinoid and a tranny cooler cross my fingers and hope for the best. What do you hink about adding the cooler?
Thanks for the replys!
