I am going to put a Ford 302 into my Jeep. I am having problems deciding on a tranny.
would like:
5 speed
granny gear
OD
I was thinking about the 5 speed that was in our '95 F-250 Work truck (I miss that truck). It had all the above. I just don't know which one it was.
Are there any others you can think of?
I have a C6 and a NP435, but they don't match the prerequisites :D

Hi 302 nice what year are you putting it into? Going to be street driven or off road? How about a Atlas if you got the $$$$$ :teethgrin My friend has one what a Mule and it looks cool excelent TransferCase then your trans will be rocking with that. The 5 Speed is good but does it match up? :xj: :usa: :usa:

It is going into a '94. I am not sure if the tranny will match up or if I have to look for another. Maybe just upgrade to a 351 and then I know the tranny will match. :D
I haven't gotten far enough in the driveline as to look into x-fer cases yet :D
I have a feeling that the tranny I want won't work cause of different bolt pattern than the block, and I need to find measurements on it. If memory if serving me, it wasn't short.

If you want an auto C-4 is the best you can get, they are a realy tough tranny. Manual 5 speeds get tougher, The Jeep CJ and Ford used the T-5 a good tranny and easy to find but not that tough. 302 Swap (http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/waterman/tranny.cfm) Check out this web page he has done a 302 and ford tranny into his 89 YJ, lots of good info!

Warlock,
Have you been, or are you on pirate4x4.com ?
They have lots of 5.0 info, and lots of guys have done it there! I'm gathering parts and info right now. I have a '90 302 efi but it's pretty pain jane. (Free to a good home!!) I can have the whole car actually with the aod tranny and that what I'm thinking of swapping into my TJ in the future. I also have a 74 Bronco for the axles and transfer case (c4) I want o/d for highway cruising. I want to go auto just to try something different!!!
The problem I am having is finding CHEAP gears for the tcase. There's the usual $1500+/- 4:1 gears but would like other options of the home grown variety. I'm thinking of 203/d20 combo but who knows!!!
Good luck keep us posted!!! (Take some pics if you have time!!)
