Well realy, the ignition was 90% Ford to begin with anyways. Right!?

Went to the parts store for a tune up about 2 weeks ago and desided to try the upgrade upgraded ignition route.

The cap adapter, cap, 8mm wires, coil and plugs cost only $65.00.

Now the old jeep idles at 600 RMP no misfire or stumbling at idle and is pulling 21" vacuum at idle. Before the best I was able to was 1000 RPM and 18" of vacuum.

Still only getting 18-20 MPG but I realy doubt anyone can do better than that in Ohio unless the're going on flat land all the time

Here are the parts I used:

Go to this site for details and part numbers for all the parts.

It realy helped the guys at the counter to pick and cross reference the part numbers. I only had to wait 3 hours for the cap adapter to come in from the warehouse everything else they jeep in stock. Basically, It's all parts for a '84 Ford 300 cu in.

I'm still reaching for the keys every time I come to a light because I think the engine has stalled. :)

Na actually we have a lot of 'Ridges' left over from the last time it snowed here for about 1000 years straight. :) Something about snow drifts about 5 miles deep.

Sound like great Jeeping weather, doesn't it? :D

Ya know, I think I've heard of those...Jerry B would know how deep the snow really was (I think he was really there), but he doesn't hang around here very much :D

This upgrade works really well for adding smoothness and throttle responce also . Just a couple things that I have found work with it to make it better. The first is to use AC Rapidfire plugs and then open the plug gap up to .045". I was able to gain 2mpg and a lot better responce on my 360 powered 65 Wag by doing this. The only check I have on the CJ is not valid because when I did the upgrade at the same time as a cam, intake and carb change. The CJ jumps when the throttle is cracked however.

BTW use 460 Ford wires on the AMC v8's.
