View Full Version : Going out on a limb and complaining...

Can I just voice my opinion about something? I'm REALLY starting to get irritated with women who drive Jeeps and know NOTHING about them or how fun they can be. They just drive them because, as I was told by a woman Jeeper yesterday, "chics just look cool driving Jeeps" I apologize if I offend any women on here, but if you are on here, you more than likely appreciate Jeeps, like me... Ok, done venting now...I promise that's the last one...

Doesn't really bother me. My cousin is like that. She want's "big fat tires" but won't let anyone take her precious Jeep off road.
Funny thing is, it got washed away in a mud slide and totalled! Ironic!
She just got a new 2001.

My wife is like that. Only time her TJ sees dirt is when she uses it to take the PWC down to the lake.

But then again, there are just as many guys out there who are like that also. So it's not just women who are that finnicky <sp?>.

Consider yourself as an enlightened JeepChick. One of the very few. :)

I guess I am lucky in the fact my wife will help wrench and beat the hell out of the jeeps

I shouldn't let it bother me, but it does. I can be femine w/ the rest of them, but a Jeep is supposed to be rough, not with pink fuzzy dice on the mirror. Guess that just comes from growing up w/ a Jeep dad. Tis true that guys can be that way too. My husband is a Vette guy so he tends to go overboard with the cleaniness factor and tries to tell me that the Jeep needs to be that way...However he was the first one to scratch the entire side of it off roading in Glacier Park...

Well, I think most J C's know quite a bit about their rigs. Perhaps someone who doesn't go off-road much, won't. Nicole, here in Savannah, is very impressive with the knowledge she shares with me, about her XJ and other Jeeps. :)

But, I will admit, I didn't even know what a disconnect was, until last November. I'm 34 years old! LOL I have learned quite a bit about my Jeep, and hope to learn much more over the years.

I guess that no guys have jeeps to drive to the mall and pick up girls, right? I sure see more young guys driving stock jeeps in this area than anyone else. Plus I have never seen a woman driving a lowered jeep -- only guys:)

I want there to be lots and lots of shiny never-used Jeeps on the road!!!!!!!

All I think about when I see one is that there goes my future parts rig. :D
Lower them, rasie them, only drive them to the mall, whatever. Polish them well and keep 'em good and shiny so the parts are all rust-free when I come to get them from the wrecker.

Never thought of it like that but it is one way to look at it

I guess I am missing the point. If a girl (or a guy) buys a Jeep for nothing more than taking the top off and letting the wind pour through their hair, what does it matter? I think someone who enjoys driving their Jeep IS realizing how fun they can be. It would be nice if all people were familiar with the capabilities of their rig, but I don't think it is a requirement. When I see a person in a Jeep, I know I am looking at a person who is interested in the journey, as much as the end of the journey. A ride in a Jeep on a warm summer night is like therapy. I must be wierd, but I have almost as much fun on the road as I do off the road. I just like being in it as much as I can. :)

I really didn't have anything to add. Sounds like the Yuppie Depressiation Program to me.

You all make good points...I guess I'm just too set in my ways. I do have to say that I agree about the young guys having Jeeps...I see that a lot...I wish I could have had a Jeep when I started driving....Ok, no more complaining on my part...

How could anyone believe someone with a name like Sunshine would be complaining. :) I though of it more like an observation.

Now assume the Jeep driving position: Top down, radio up, HUGE smile on face.

Chris, I think Pam would beat the hell outta you if you DIDN'T let her help wrench. ;)

You've noticed this, too? There do seem to be very few women driving SWB Jeeps.

Did you see me driving to work this morning??? ;) That was my driving position. :D

Helen
How right you are.
She has been more involved with the jeeps more than I have lately
she just seems to have more time than I do
But summers coming I took the top of monday and refuse to put it back on it is spring and tops should be removed (Pam said I could borrow her jeep if it snows )

That statement definitely doesn't offend me, because you at least acknowledge the fact that there are other women who do understand the whole point of a Jeep. I hate it when the blanket statement is made that "women who drive Jeeps never take them off pavement, never wave, just don't get it, etc.". I don't really care if their Jeep doesn't leave the asphault because it just makes more room on the trail for me! :)

Good point. As popular as our hobby is becoming, it's only a matter of time before all the trails become too congested. Then what?

When I was married my wife suggested that I trade my Jeep in for a Dodge Neon... it didn't last long after that.

The Neon or the marriage? Can't see a Neon doing to well on the trails. :)

This time of year the new Jeeps the high schools kids bought last year are in the used car lots. They are all in new rides for their trips to and from the mall. These Jeeps are great buys never been off road or seen dirt and are the next best thing to a new rig. The under carriage is spotless with not some much as a dent. I plan to search out the used car lots for my next TJ. Like Chris S posted earlier about parts the whole rig is like new, no wear or tear.

I just don't see many high school kids who can afford these new TJs I keep hearing about. The local high school here has over 4000 kids, and the parking lot is full of 10 year old, and older cars/trucks. I do agree that a super nice Jeep can be had for semi-decent prices, but I wouldn't count on too many high schoolers having them, and keeping them in good shape if they DO have them. I would personally not want a vehicle after a high school kid owned it. I was a high school kid, and I beat the hell out of my cars, and never took them off-road. :)

You just live in the wrong place. In this area, lots of the high school kids drive new, expensive cars. You can go look at the parking lots at Richard Montgomery (a high school near my house) and the student's parking lots are full of BMWs, Lexus (no idea how to make that plural:)), and really nice Jeeps. You have got to look in the staff lot for the 10 year old cars.

I sincerely hope that you aren't proposing that these kids are buying and supporting BMWs and Lexus automobiles. A TJ is doable, but hardly the norm. A BMW or Lexus is surely not owned, maintained and insured by a high school student. The private college I attend doesn't even have but a few of the cars mentioned above. I stand by contention that high school kids owining these cars isn't the norm, anywhere. Yes, perhaps a few, (most assuredly parent owned and supported) but well outside of the majority.

It was were I went to HS in GA. 6 girls that were in my grade level (sophmore year) got BMW convertables for their sweet 16. All but one had totalled them by graduation. Their parents paid for everything, and probably wrote it off as a business expense. It all depends on where you live.

That is what I suggested...the parents GAVE them the cars. My contention was that high school kids are not buying and maintaining these cars. I won't get into reasons why, but where you live doesn't have much to do with it. Our high school of 4000 is a fair representaiotn of the nation as a whole, both economically and socially. I don't think it is worthy of arguing over though. If these kids want to call these cars "theirs" because they have the keys to them, that's fine.

Take care.
