I think that I may be putting on some dana 60s front and rear with air lockers in them. And putting 37" tires on 16.5 rims and cutting the fenders quite a bit and extending the wheelbase on the cj-5. Thats if I get the axles. Some guy is selling some dana 60s with air lockers for cheap. So I decided if I get beefer axles then I could run some bigger tires. To fit the tires I need to cut the fenders a bit and maybe add a inch or two of lift. I plan on cutting the rear from the top of the fender straight back and around to the tailgate. So if I lift it higher on a cj-5 I am going to need to extend it. I think I am going to go with 4.88 gears but still not sure what the best would be. Tell what you guys think?
Major work ahead and a whole lot of cash needed.

Sounds like a good plan.
4.88 or maybe 5.13's? :D:D

What are the D60's out of? Not knowing the break off hand is you CJ a wide track? If not you will have to move the springs outside the frame or offset the axles if they were not from a CJ (custom built for a CJ). 4.88's would be a good choice. Sounds like fun, Good Luck!

the axles came out of a cj just like mine so its going to be a bolt right in swap. At least I hope. I havent see the axles yet but the guy said that they are in good shape and he had them just in a couple months ago.

4.88s and Utah wheeling sound perfect. I just want to see the pics when its all done (if it gets done).

Just a note that it doesn't matter if the CJ is widetrack or not. The frame on a widetrack is the same width as narrow track. The factory axles themselves are the only part that got wider.
For moab's wheel selection I would rethink going to a 16.5" wheel. They don't incorporate the safety bead and you will have problems maintaining the bead if you air down at all. If you use the right parts (brake parts for clearance) a 15" wheel can be used.

hey guys
I get the axles to night. The axles are all taking apart. So I can see what kind of condition they are in. Another question. I heard that you have you run 16 in. rims on dana 60 is this true or can you go to 15 in.
Now I just got to start saving for the tires, air compressor, and rims. If you guys see in deals with tires around 37 in. let me know and on a compressor. Got to start thinking how I am going to extend the wheelbase.
