Hi,
I am new to this forum so I hope I've done things correctly. I need some help please.
I am the proud owner of an 96 cherokee 2.5 TD. Recently, whenever it rains, the back brakes lock up at the slightest touch of the pedal - this only happens a couple of times and then the breaks are back to normal. I have changed the drums, checked the lines, the pads etc and have found no problems. Had the mechanics checked it all and everything seems fine.
Help please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am quite worried as I do travel with the kids and do not want to have an accident.

Any help, ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nok

As much as I hate to say this...

... both of my XJs do the same thing -- if it's wet outside the first two (or so) brake applications do tend to lock the rears...

... keeping em adjusted helps some (two applications instead of qty=5) , but nothing we've tried precludes this from happening --

The routine is that I'll ride the brakes for a bit on those mornings and leave it at that...

It only happens on the D35 axles with the light weight brakes (10"diameter x1.75" or the 9" drum - though I expect that you have only the 9" drum on your newer model). Some of the dissection that we did here indicates that the shoes move too much on the backing plate and that that causes the front shoe to bind against the drum when the brakes are applied (meaning that the e-brake isn't the issue as first conjectured).

Of course we get 300+ days fo sunshine around here... can't imagine what that must be like in the UK...

Yo Satan............
thanks for the information - at least I know that I am not alone with this problem.
Regarding the weather, I'd like to thank you for reminding me that there is an object in the sky called the sun which we hardly see over here.

Cheers

Sounds like they're wet alright. I get that darned near every single day. Give them a chance to dry and they're okay. One of the reasons I'm switching to disc brakes.

I get that with both my YJ's and sometimes even my Ford truck.

Normally by the time I get out of my driveway everythings fine though:D
