A copy of my post of today on the Jeeps Unlimited Forum, in case their is anyone on this forum who is also unhappy with the non-performance of the JET Chip.

Well JET pissed off the wrong Canadian today!

Some background. About 2 years (before I started roaming this forum ), I bought into all of the JET claims about increased horsepower, yada, yada, yada. I had the chip on for around 3 months when my vehicle starting idling rough and stalling at lights, backfiring and any other number of maladies. I nearly replaced the fuel pump. Fortunately , my mechanic thought to remove the chip to see if the problems went away. They did. Put the chip back on, the problems returned.

The company I bought the part off of had a 1 month return policy so I was screwed from that angle. I contacted JET and after much browbeating they finally agreed to replace my chip.

I still have the unopened box containing the replacement chip. I fear doing damage to my Laredo (this may be unfounded), and the consensus on this forum seems to be that the chips don't work anyways. That was certainly my experience.

I let it slide for around a year, but today for some reason, I thought I would try JET out to see what their customer care was like (especially given the very positive treatment I got from Edelbrock in replacing my IAS shocks re the clunking problem). Well lets just say I don't care for their customer care.

I calmly and politely (perhaps that was the problem) talked to 3 different levels of warrany people, who all denied that the chips did not work as claimed. I offered to return the chip for wholesale cost (box is unopened) in which case they could sell it to someone else at wholesale and all that would have been achieved would be having a satisfied customer (me). All 3 firmly denied me.

I don't know about you, but I am mad as hell. A company like Edelbrock stepped up, admitted there was a bit of a problem with their product, fixed it, and is keeping their customers happy. JET is basically saying F*&k you, we don't take back electronic parts (even unopened ones!).

I further asked the Operations Manager (I have his name if anyone wants to call him personally to vent) if he had literature proving that the Chips indeed do work for a 95 Grand with a 5.2 L engine. He stated that indeed they do and is supposedly going to send it to me.

I asked if I could publish the results on the net and he said "NO WAY". Why not? I asked. His reply was that this is confidential JET information.

At any rate, I don't think I will be breaking any confidentiality laws I if write a post summarizing the results when and if I get them.

In the meantime, I think as a group the forum members wield a good bit of clout (and if we don't we ought to!) with these manufacturers, so I would urge anyone else who is not happy with their JET chip to phone up JET and tell them about how their product does not work. Ironically, all 3 people I talked to say they have had very few complaints about their product. I suggest we give them some to think about.

Sorry for the long post - I am sick today and in a crappy mood, and I happened to look at the unopened JET box when I woke up!

Let's kick some JET ***.

Well then perhaps then no one on this forum has been burnt by JET. That would be a good thing. :)

Or simply too embarrassed to admit it. :( Not a good thing to let JET get away with it.

Or perhaps their chip actually works and the aftermarket gods have simply chosen to rain on my parade! Whatever!

Cheers

The only beef I have with Jet is that it would not fit. I bought one from someone (unopened box, etc) and tried to install it in my 4.0L 1993 ZJ and it would not fit into the connector. I ended up selling it to someone on the JU site about a year ago for $20. Not sure if it worked for him or not.

Big D, I too have had problems with my JET chip and now it is used as a paper weight. When I first installed the chip(about 2 1/2 years ago) it worked fine for about 5 to 6,000 miles and the ZJ started having stalling/surging problems and a rough idle. Removed the chip and the jeep ran fine. Sent chip back to JET for warranty replacement and was told they, JET, have upgraded the sockets connections and that was probably why I was having problems. Installed "new" chip, ran for about a year and it started all over again. Removed JET chip, oops, the extension piece supplied by chip would not come out of the PCM module. ****! Had to remove the PCM module from its housing, cut off most of the extension, then drilled out the remainder, then used those reverse drill bits that remove broken bolts(forgot the name of those bits), and was successfull in not damaging the PCM module. All this was 12 hours before my trip to Nevada(planned ofcourse, months in advance), needless to say my paper weight is doing fine on my work bench and I learned an expensive lesson...........RT

How Bizarre. I share something in common with both of you! On my original chip I had trouble getting the part to fit and it came apart removing it (had to crazy glue the cover back together).

And I thought it was just me and my two left hands :(.

Bottom line: Poorly designed and built aftermarket piece of equipment.

Sorry to hear that you too now have a paperweight as well.
