Anyone use one of these? I'd like to extend my driving range more than 100 mi. Not that I'm complaining about my mileage. I'd just like to be a little less friendly with the gas station.
What about off roading? does it get in the way?

What size tank do you have to begin with. I put the stock 22 gallon in my cj. I had the 15 couldnt go anywhere. The 22 doesnt hang any lower but is wider. Good luck.

I put one in my 78 CJ, the only problem was with the fuel sending unit you have to do a mod to your old one wich essentually equates to lengthening the float arm. It didnt work for me, so while I had 22 gal of gas I couldent tell within a reasonable guess when it was time to fill up. I got ahold of the manufacture of the tank to see if they had the answer. they offer an extended sender that is a direct replacement. I would recomend getting it if you go with the large tank. If you go with the plastick tank offered by 4WD Hardware they also have an extended sender but they say it wont work with the metal one. Had no problem with clearance.
Trailquest makes the extended sender for there metal tanks. ph 1-800-770-2617

The 22 fits between the springs and has about 1 1/2 clearance. If your exhaust goes between the tank and the springs you will have to change it. The exhaust will have to go between the spring and the frame. For the sender just go to the junk yard and get the whole package. Make sure you get the skid plate also. Check the sender before you install the tank that why you dont have to pull the tank again. Also clean the tank if it has any dirt in it. I had to drill one hole out because it didnt fit perfect but my tank came out of an 86 and there is some minor frame differences. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

Cool! Steel or poly?
the 21.2gal poly kit in Quadratec is $229 complete
the 22gal steel in 4wd hard. is $219 using the existing stuff.
Which do you think is better?

You may have misunderstood what i meant by the whole package. Sorry if i did screw you up but what i meant by the whole package was gas tank, sending unit, and skid plate. I bought my package for 50 bucks and the sending unit worked. The factory jeep 22 gal tanks were plastic which i prefer because they dont rust. I would never pay 200 bucks for a new tank. I am not sure on this but i think you still need to buy the skid plate so the aftermarket tanks will work.
