I found a spot to put the CB..
Turned out to be a much easier installation than anticipated..
It is just not convenient to mess with while driving..
Even have the coax run all the way to the back door,,
but as yet, I have not mounted the anntena..

Above the foot well is a plastic plate that removes with 2 screws..
I mounted the CB on that..
No visible mounting holes, and the CB is there for emergencies and the trail..

""Any metal working people out there.??""

I want to get a piece of metal that attaches to the inside of the back door jamb,,
comes out thru the opening and bends around just above the tail light..
and then mount the antenna there..
Whether it was a side mount or a top mount would
depend on how the metal was shaped..
There would only be about 3" of coax sticking out from the door..
This way NO holes have to be drilled on the "outside" of the body..
easy, huh.??

I ended up doing it myself.. very easy fab..
just bent some 16ga metal and it was flexible enough
to move out of the way of the branches..
(btw. - it never bent out of shape..)

Does the Libby have any knee-area bags? You might want to reconsider the placement of that radio if there are airbags down low.

The air bag opens from above the glove box and wraps down around it. I'm quite confident that there would be no interferance with it from the CB.

Looks great,

The roofrack seems to be a good location for the antenna don't you think? (you don't have to drill):xj:

The roof rack would give a good signal plane, but you would need to ground the antenna.
Many antennas have a ground wire you can use if needed.

The problem with mounting above the tail light is that you have no ground plane behind, and your signal is partly blocked by the body in front. If you use this type of mounting location make sure you use a "top loaded" antenna.

Wasn't sure...I had to check out the LIbby propaganda sheet ...errrr...dealer info booklet. I guess I was thinking of the sidecurtains (?)

I'm also looking for a way to power overhead lights and run coax out for a antennae and figured I would come out through the over head brake light lens. I would have to drill a hole in the plastic and use a grommet for water tightness. If I needed to abandon the setup i would just have to replace a lens.Just my two cents, any thoughts against my idea would be welcome.
