The leak into the passenger side floor area is relatively common. My dealer pulled the top, windshield and the cowling on front of the wndshield. Replaced all the rubber moldings and had to silicone the entire area. I still have the leak in real heavy rain.

To add to what Rick stated about the leak, they have also been known to leak at the base of the rollbar. That was the case with my TJ. A good dose of silicone stopped it.

How much lift do you want?

Depends on your budget for the lift. If you can justify a few paychecks, I would go for the Rubicon Express Long Arm kit for ultimate comfort. I know it's expensive and you will need a SYE and gears given the larger tire size.

Take your time in the research, it will pay off.

I knew I wanted to go with the long arm but could not afford the initial hit. I divided up the project to distribute the cost over the long run. I started with springs and rear trac bar relocation and a JB SYE, then 4.56 gears and arb's, then onto the RE long arm upgrade with tires and wheels.

Don't forget spending time on what kind of tires and wheels you want to have. I checked out tons of pics and rigs on the road.

Most lifts will make the ride stiffer but Tera's TeraFlex lift is one brand in particular I can recommend as giving an extremely good ride both off and on-road. With Doetsch Tech DT3000 shocks, I was amazed how much better my TJ rides now after having removed the piece o' crap ProComp lift I first installed. Even after having replaced the ProComp's stiff ES3000 shocks with Rancho's adjustable RS9000 shocks, my wife still complained about the ride and I thought it was a bit stiff too so the TeraFlex suspension is a daily treat now.

For the water leak, it could be the vent under the cowling leaking around where the sheet metal forms up next to it. I siliconed mine several years ago and no leaks afterwards. The cowling is pretty easily removed, the final screws that hold it on are under the rubber where the hood meets the cowl.

I can't comment on PIAA since I don't have them but they have a good reputation. I'm an old geezer at 53 so I tend to run with more traditional stuff on my Jeep... so I like KC Daylighter lights. Afterall, it's hard to put a Smiley Face cover on any brand offroad light but a KC :D

Well, I dont' have the experience that some of these other guys have. However, I have to say I am completely content with the BDS 2" lift I installed on my Jeep. (Well, until I can go to 4", anyway.) :D

It has a lifetime, no questions asked, warranty. That means a lot to me, that someone will back up their product that well.

edit: Oh, the other thing is, I know it's a somewhat stiff ride but, it now handles and performs significantly better than it ever did, stock.

I have PIAA 959 Projector Lights. The clear-lense version, mounted upright. They are good fog lights, but I wouldn't get them again, because of their immense high pricing. A very good and cost-effective alternative would be the Hella 500!
ProComp also offers cheap lights. Check their webpage!

For a ride identical to stock, go with OME 2.5" lift.

Any other lift will be stiffer than stock, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also, lot of that stiffness is a function of nut just the springs but mainly shocks. I.e. you can easily use ProComp 4" springs and get a nice soft ride if you use softer shocks. The ProComp shocks are the stiffest I have seen yet.

If you need to go with stiffer and taller springs, then follow dh-king's advice.

TeraFlex offers a ride better than stock. Their LongArm system is very smooth, removes bump steer, and articulates like crazy offroad. Even their short-arm systems offer a better ride than stock.

You will pay less for a basic TeraFlex LongArm system - about $1500 including shocks if you shop around - than you would pay for a Rubicon Express Extreme LongArm system = $2300+. But, you will get more stuff with the RE.

TeraFlex rides great in almost any form but it is stiffer than stock. "Better" is a personal opinion. I think it is better because when you're lifted, stiffer springs help handling but it may not be what HarrysTJ wants and the 2.5" OME handles well while preserving soft ride.

Another common source for leaks is the base of the antenna

I'm very, very happy with my Teraflex S3T lift kit with regard to on-road manners. It is definitely stiffer, but not unreasonably so. I've been told that the springs will "loosen up" a bit as they break in (not so sure if that's true, but we'll see).

I got the Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks. I originally had them on the "3" setting, but put it on "2" for a little cushy-er ride. Nice, and quite comparable to the stock ride. I think I might end up back on "3" though, because there is a bit of sway to the ride on "2".
