Kind of a newbe question maybe.
I have seen plenty of Jeeps at extreme angles on rocks and hills but no one talks about oil pressure. Are stock oil pans deep enough at these angles or is one of the first mods a dry sump ?
It would seem to me that all your oil would go up into you crankshaft, get nice and foamed up and your oil pressure would drop.
Maybe your to busy to look at your gauges! :-)
Just curious

That is a definite concern. I 'wheeled with a super-slick CJ-8 that had a seperate reservoir of oil. When he was up at an angle, this device triggered up to 4 more quarts of oil to be pumped into the motor. Once level again, the extra oil drained back into the reservoir.
This guy also had a gear-driven cam. Pretty cool jeep.

hmmm. that's something I've never thought about. I don't do any "hardcore" rockcrawling with my Tj yet but have taken it to some pretty steep angles and never thought to check my oil guage. I guess I'm working to hard from trying not to flip and keep the seat out of my...

I don't believe that is much of an issue, since most of the time the Jeep isn't in such an attitude for any extended length of time.

With an auto (like me) it is a concern, since you can lose power if your fluid is all in the wrong spot. There is a MOPAR deep oil pan for the tranny that increases the fluid capacity and reduces the problem. I'll put it in next time I get a major service.
