I have an 89 YJ. I have a worked Chrysler 318, somewhere around 350hp. I want to put the motor in my Jeep, but what manual tranny can I use that will handle the power? I am also going with a Ford 8.8 rear from a late model Explorer. Will I also need a new front axle and transfer case or will my stock units be ok?
also a question of opinion.... I'm thinking either dual side pipes or single 3" following the stock exhaust routing. Which do u guys think i should go with?

The NV 4500 should handle the power, but not sure if it will bolt right up.
For me, I think I would use the single exhaust option. Its not a race car, and only one pipe means one less pipe to get caught on things.

what vehicles did that tranny come in? also, it's a manual, not an auto, right?
I'm feelin the 3" single pipe too. It'll also be a little bit quieter inside on the highway. my boss is tryin to convince me to get the side pipes.

Among other applications, the NV4500 was found behind Dodge trucks with the 5.2L (318)
I wonder about the 8.8" though...wouldn't expect that to hold up very nicely since it's a c-clip axle that isn't much sturdier than the Dana 35 it will be replacing. Look for a Dana 44 or Ford 9" to survive under that much horsepower.

it's a manual though, right? I hate automatics. I will never own another one.
