What brand synthetic lubricants do you use?

Mobil 1 synth (or synth blend if I'm cheap) for the engine.

Castrol Synth in the diffs.

I've heard plenty of reports that the AW4 tranny (90's XJs) have "issues" with synthetic ATF including hard shifting and overheating, etc so 'm staying away for now.

Thanks; that's good to know. I switched to Mobil1 at about 5000 miles and am going to switch the diffs soon (at least the rear, as I have to remove the cover to install the diff guard that I bought).

I picked Mobil 1 because it has the best reputation among the synthetics coupled with the fact that if I purchase it in bulk (more than a gallon at a time) I am only paying $3.50 a quart for a full synthetic vs 2.99 for Castrol Syntech Blend.

Is it a good idea to start using synthetic in your first oil change? Seems to me I heard somewhere that you shouldn't start until the second time you change your oil.

Doesn't make any sense to me but I swear I remember hearing that somewhere. Just thought I'd ask before I get to my first oil change... I want to do everything to make my Liberty last!

That is a matter of opinion depending on who you talk to..

I waited until my third oil change @ 7500 miles..
I figured it would help seat the rings, flush out any shavings or whatever might be in there..

Now I run Valvoline full Synthetic.. & a K&N filter..
