Found a Cj-7 in the local classifieds today, I am not planning on going to look at it because I will want to buy it and it is gonna be about a month before I have enough money, but I though I would ask just for the heck of it, you know just in case I can talk the parents into going ahead and getting it for a graduation present(8th grade graduation, kinda of a joke but they said they want to get me a present for it so... ) . The ad reads "Jeep CJ-7 '82, 6cyl, 5spd trans, hard top with doors, $3500." Assuming it is in decent condition and not rusted badly, what would be a fair price, $3500 sounds a tad high but I am not sure, what do you think?

That actually sounds a bit low for around where I live. If it is (almost) rust free and decent.

Like I said I haven't even seen it so i don't know actual condition. They took the ad out of the peper today so I assume it got sold already. There is another one,"Jeeps cj-7 '85 258 straight 6, 79k, new top and rims, newer paint, looks and runs good, $5500." what about the price on the '85 assuming it is in as good of condition as the ad says? Do you think prices here in Mississippi should be similar to the prices you see down in Florida?

Thats a more realistic price for down here. I saw a CJ-7 in the paper last week for $8500. Don't remember the year though.
Problem is, where I live, everybody wants a jeep because its the cool thing to drive to the beach. And the prices reflect that.
But I do know of a place where I can get a YJ for $5995. The used car lots are selling them cheaper than newspaper ads.

Yeah, the used market for wranglers is pretty good, which drives up prices, but around here there dosen't seem to be a big demand for CJ's, I guess people are just looking for wranglers cause they are fun but don't want to deal with the work involved in driving a CJ. Most of the ads I see around here are priced between $3000 and 5500 for CJ's. I saw a nice one that was restored the other day for $5500, but I belive it too has sold. I have yet to see a CJ on a car lot and I have been looking. Most off-roaders around here opt for z-71's over jeeps, don't ask me why, but they do.

Last time I went out to the beach, the used lots on 23rd street had no less than a half dozen CJ's. And 2 weeks later there were none. (Still YJ's and TJ's) A jeep is a jeep down here. But no one understands that second lever.

I hear you about second lever, my sis drives a grand cherokee with quadratrac, and the first time she drove it she asked, "which shifter thingy do I use, there are 2" She couldn't put it in low range if her life depended on it. That surprises me that u r seeing that many cj's down there for sale. There are never more than 2-3 in the papers here!

During the summer, they are great for running the beaches. And during the winter the yuppies get cold, (like it really gets cold down here) and they get rid of them.
