Hi,

I'm new here to this board and unforunately, I live in the middle of the rust belt. New York City.

I've only owned CJ-7's as a car for my entire life. I currently am jeepless. I went overseas for a while, but now I am back and I want to buy my next one. (There is only one Jeep!) My peferrences run to something like a 1985-86 manual with at least a straight 6, and I would like to buy it rust free and running well.

Based on your experience, where should I start looking? I am actually even willing to travel to another state to complete a purchase for a worthwhile Jeep to start fiddling with.

there's reallly no one perfect place to look. since you're out east, a lot of the CJ's out there have plenty of rust. the best non-rust CJs are typically found in southern cali, texas, arizona...you get the idea. when i bought mine, i checked the local classifieds, autotrader.com (http://www.autotrader.com/), ebaymotors.com (http://www.ebaymotors.com/), and checked out any CJs for sale locally parked somewhere. keep checking online with various bulletin boards, as many times CJs will be up for sale (recently was a sweet CJ5 in georgia...)

also, make a post stating you're looking to buy a CJ7 on jeep bulletin boards...jeepers are good at helping each other out and pointing out good deals.

one last bit o' advice: if you have a digital camera, take it with you to various CJ's and take some pictures. if you want advice on "is this a good buy?", then post it here, and show us pics.

good luck,
