I remember a long time ago I saw a compass/tiltmeter that mounted on top of the dash of his vehicle. I would assume it was a sticky mount or something like that. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knows of something like this.

It combined the tiltmeter and the compass into one ball about 2.5" to 3" across.

Thanks

My dad got a stick-on compass for his 89 XJ soon after buying it; I would guess JC Whitney as the source on that one.

I don't know about the tiltmeter except as a source of seat-clenching entertainment for the passenger(s). There are too many variables involved with loading the Jeep that will change the center of gravity to say "I won't tip until X degrees..."

The only way to find the value of "X", is to roll it once. Who ya gonna get to sit inside, watching the meter, while you flop it over?

The problem with having them inside while you tip it is that if you have different passengers in it, you will change the center of gravity. Same goes for that full tank of gas or the extra coole full o'beer, etc...

They're still entertaining for the passengers though :P

According to something I read most people start to freak at 23 degrees of tilt. I would never trust the tilt guage when close to the limit, but it's useful for getting an idea whether you really should be concerned, or just being chicken :D
