O.K. heres the story: I was out running through some pretty deep mud with my friends about a month ago. When I came home, I notice this weird winding noise coming from the engine. Upon closer inspection(a funnel with a peice of tubing on it) I narrowed it down to the front of the engine compartment. To be more precise, one of the pullys. I have washed it, oiled it, greased it and it still wont go away. It varies with RPMs and gets worse(read:louder) when the temperature is cold outside. Please help me!

I also have had a check engine light since this noise came around. It is code 24, the TPS. The engine is a EFI 2.5 in a 95' YJ w/ AC...the noise does not differ with the AC compressor on, only I get a new clunking noise. Thanks for any help:)!

Sounds like the bearings are going out. The mud probablly just exargeratted it.

What bearings would/could be out? Is this something that I could fix myself? Thanks:)

It sure sounds like you got mud inside the fan clutch itself. When it's cold, the fan is free-spinning so it would be noisier as it spins against itself. When it's warm out, the fan clutch is engaged-locked so the fan wouldn't be free-spinning. No guarantees, it just seems like it could be the fan clutch (cheap).
