I picked up my 98 TJ on Saturday. I got the dual tops with it. The girl who owned it before had never removed the soft top from inside the vehicle. Still wrapped up in the factory cover. From what I understand, there is a box included with the dual top option that includes all the necessary parts to make the soft top complete. What, besides the windows, should I be looking for? I have never had a soft top before, hard top or no top only.
Is there something that attaches around the full doors to seal it up, attaching to the sport bar or something? Also, is there a difference between the 98 and 2000 soft tops, the dealer has a new 2000 sitting there, maybe they will give me the box out of the back seat of that one and make me happy.
Any help would be appreeciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

It should come with the two door surrounds (boomarang shaped thingy's) and four knobs that hold them to the roll bars over the doors. I think that covers all of it. :)

Go after the dealer for those door surrounds since without them, the soft top won't seal around the doors. They are also expensive to buy on your own, you need to get after them like now! The are black, shaped like a giant "L" or boomerang as Dwayne described, made from fiberglass or some type of composite material and are as long as the door is wide and as tall as the upper part of the door, just so you'll know what to look for. They're a key part of the soft top.

Also, you might want to make sure you have the rear softtop window frame piece that seals the bottom of the rear soft window to the tailgate and tub when the tailgate closes.

There's two small black brackets that are used on each side of the tailgate at the top of the tub (one per side). These secure the frame rail to the tub.

I've never looked over a hardtop or dual top TJ before, so this all may be included and in place, but they're needed to seal the rear softtop window.

Like Jerry said, you'll probaly want to get back to the dealer ASAP about those door surrounds. They're a pricey item and I'd think the delaership would cover that if they're missing.

Good Luck!!!!!

I doubt the dealer will just give you these parts since it was used. They might be willing to contact the person who traded in the Jeep to see if she has and can give you these items.

Thanks for all your help. The dealer delivered the parts (brand new) to my shop yesterday. 2 boxes, 1 containing windows, the other containing the door surrounds and a torx wrench for removing the hard top. All free of additional charges. They were supposed to be included, but aparrently were never included when the previous owner traded the Jeep in. New ones were shipped in yesterday. She probably has 2 sets now, as she traded for the same exact vehicle, only a 2001 model. All is well again.
