Just bought an 84 cj7 (6cyl auto transmission) last week (my first jeep! Always wanted one- finally got one). Its got 32" tires which will soon be 33x 12.50" and a K&N Filter. I will be adding a 4" suspension lift soon too.
I will be using this as my primary vehicle (daily driving) which is mainly on the street but will do lots of offroading as well.
What gearing, axles, etc. would anyone recommend?
Carb modifications? or new Weber?
For extra power would you recommend headers or just a catback exhaust (Borla?- FlowMaster?) pros & cons?
I was told to run 87 octane gas in this. Is that the best octane for these?

Lotsa questions! A couple of things that I would recommend:
*One would be a steering box brace when you go to the 33's.
*Another would be to go to one piece rear axles.
*If you're going to be doing a lot of four wheeling, especially rock crawling, and you can stand to limit your top speed a bit I would suggest that you go with 4.56 gears. If on road performance is more important then stay with 4.10's.
*Lockers are nice offroad but they are less desireable on the road unless you go with something like an OX or ARB. Limited slip only helps a little.
*If you're going off road make sure that you have tow hooks front and rear.
*Before you start changing carbs you better check the emission laws in your area. A lot of mods that are common in other areas might not be legal in CA. You can do some stuff to help the 258 but if you really want much more power then you're probably looking at an engine swap.
*I run 87 octane in mine if that means anything.
How's that for a start?

Thanks SamFromCO!!!
Think I will stay with these gears. I dont want to lose the top end that I already dont have:)
I am close to Jeeps R Us that does the Weber mod for California smog laws. They charge $400 for it.

Thanks for your help Bud!!
