I just picked up a new Bestop Supertop for my '00 hardtop TJ. I am unable to get the Windshield Retainer to install. No matter what I try I am unable to get this to install on the windshield top. I have checked everything I can find and I am unable to get this to install, it just does not appear to fit over the rubber molding on the windshield top.

Here are their instructions: http://www.bestop.com/51609.pdf

I am having problems with step three.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I already tried all of the obvious, including a BFH.

Thanks...

I had the smae problem installing my header. What you have to do is sit on the header while you are installing the J-clamps and get the bolts started on each side. After you get them started and make them hand tight, then get off of the windshiel frame and tighten it down with a socket and ratchet. HTH and Happy Jeepin'! :)

I tried the sitting and hammer technique, it still does not fit. It appears that the rubber gasket on the windshield is just too big. If I place the retainer on the windshield it appears that it is just not the right size, it is cocked towards the rear of the Jeep, and the way it attaches it would appear to pull it more in that direction.

I was able to barely get it to fit when I actually removed the entire rubber gasket that was installed on the windshield. Perhaps the '00 is a bit different?
