My friend's jeep sputters accellerating, and kind of hesitates anything bellow about 2500RPMs. We checked the plugs wires, changed the o2 sensor, and the fuel filter. All to no avail. Any suggestions? Oh it's in a 94 4.0 5spd YJ. Thanks

Did you check the fuel pressure? Could be a bad pump.

Did you check the distributer? I had some sputters and it was a bad cap & rotor.

Spark plugs.

Well, we trouble shooting yesterday and found something odd. If you disconect the negative battery terminal, and the reconect it, the jeep will run sputter free for a short time. Does this mean it could be some sort of a bad sensor?

My Jeep sputtered, so I changed the distributor cap and rotor, then went sputter free for one day. Sputtered again, so I changed the spark plug wires, again sputter free for a day. Sputtered again, so I changed the plugs, no sputters in 4 months.

The computer will adjust firing timing, etc to compensate for changes in the system, but if you haven't fixed the problem, the sputters will come back.

Hope your fix is as easy as mine was, have a good one.
