I was drving a long and i saw a 1979 Cj5 for sale at a local dealer. The jeep looks like it has maybe 3in of lift with brand new 32/11.50 wild country tries. Brand new metalic copper paint, weber carb, cooler rack on teh back, new soft with soft doors, warn m6000 winch, 4spd, 124000 miles, full roll cage, gun rack, cd player, and it even runs good. The guy is asking 6000 for it. I know its hard to price a CJ but does this sound like a good price it? Any advice would be awsome. Thanks

Prices tend to be higher in Oregon than here.
It sounds like a good bit has been added to this CJ.
Things you must consider:
Frame rust at/near spring hangers and rear cross
Condition of tub (rust). Any Bondo under that fresh paint? If so, you'll be disappointed in a year or two when it bubbles up.
Quality of the mods already completed. How does it handle with the lift? Street speeds? Highway speeds?
Any driveline vibes??
Mileage on engine (When will it need a rebuild?)
Does a CJ5 have enough room for your and your gear?
CJ5s tend to sell for less than a comparably equipped CJ7.

Of course, try to get it for the best possible price. Pick a maximum you will pay for this before you talk to the guy. Then stick to it, no matter what. Also pick a starting price, just to open negotiations.

I don't know what those numbers would be for you. Maybe 4200 to open, and a 5200 max? Maybe you can live with 6000? Your call...
HTH
Good luck!!

Well i wasn't able to get that CJ5. I was having it checked out by a mech and while it was at the shop the guy sold it out from under me. I thought that was cheap and unprofessional.

Although i did find a 76 CJ7 with rebuilt v8 i'm going to look at today at 4. So who knows...

thanks
