What is the easiest way to put on a Kilby Gas Tank skid. Any comments, hints, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

I just got mine installed last weekend (without a friend as is required in the manual), and the only recomendations I can make are:
-Empty your gas tank! Either by driving it to fumes or syphoning the gas out.
-Make sure you release the fuel pressure or it will SPRAY!
-Test fit the skid without the tank, most people have had to bend the passenger support a little bit.
-The red clip on the electrical connector should not come all the way out!!! (I learned this the hard way!)
-Finally, if you have a 2000 or newer model you may not have the grounding clip that should be there by the shock mount.
Hope this helps, and enjoy the new skid!

We installed ours last weeked too. It's easy and fun.
To add to the suggestions above:
1. Read the instructions a couple times the night before.
2. wash the area to be worked on.
3.When bleeding the pressure, double up a shop rag and use between a philips screwdriver and the bleed valve. The shop rag will absorbe the gas, about 1cc.
4. Expect to get drainage from the fuel disconnect, about 5cc.
5. recheck the tightness of the straps twice.
6. I used a small pry bar the move the skid more to the rear of the vehicle befor tightening it up.
7. wait to tighten the zip tie AFTER you make the electrical connection.

Mine went in just fine. A good floor jack would have helped but wasn't necessary. HTH.

I installed mine last week. Helps to use up as much fuel as you can. Lightens the fuel cell.
I deviated from the directions by not disconnecting the fuel tank. Because it was almost empty, I was able to use to tie down straps snaked down between the tank and the factory skid to support the tank when I pulled off the skid.
It was just a matter then of getting the Kilby skid high enough to get my floor jack beneath it to do the final raising and positioning. I used a few pieces of 2x4's to elevate it enough to do this. The floor jack made quick work of the rest of the install.
Only problem I had was that the bolt that holds the front right side stripped out. I bought the largest self tapping screw I could find at Ace so that I can attach that bracket to the frame member. I'll probably do it within the next few days as I give the TJ a thorough going over as I prep for my upcoming trip to Moab.

A real easy way to release the fuel pressure without spraying gas or catching with a rag is to pull the fuel pump relay (inside power distribution box under hood), start and run it 'til it dies. Also, pull the gas cap and press the little flap in to make sure there is no pressure in the tank as well as the line.
Piece of cake!
