I have the opportunity to get 5, 31X10.5 tires at a great price but they are on 15" rims. This will negate the added ground clearance gained because of the smaller rims right? I have 235/70/16's now.

Your current tires are 29"x9.5", so the new tires are 2" taller and 1" wider.

If you do not have a lift on your Liberty 31x10.5" tires will not fit without serious rubbing issues.

I would also check to see if the wheels will clear the brake calipers.
