Some do, some don't. How are you to know when they come to an intersection, flip on the lights and go through, then flip off the lights, that he isn't going someplace important?

De[ends on how fresh the donuts are. :D

A few years ago one of the local radio stations had a contest going. Called it "Cop-No Cop".

They'd drop in at some local donut shop and then do a on air question, asking a caller from the audience to say if there was a cop there or not. If they guess correctly, they'd load them down with the usual assortment of junk.

I'm sure it was done in other cities around the country as well.

Just like with every other group of people, there are good ones and there are bad ones. Just like offroaders its all the bad ones that give the whole group a bad look.

Ive had nice ones who talked to me curtiously and I have bad ones who gave me a major attitude and obviously profiled me as a redneck driving a big jeep.

Its funny how most people complain about how bad all cops are until they need one....

From my personal experience, I'd say that most are pretty good about following traffic laws during normal driving. Of course, that can go out the window when responding to a "hot" call.

The biggest problem I've seen is officers trying to type/read the MDT while driving.

As long as they're not pulling me over, I'm fine with any of them. It's the rest of you(good/fast drivers please exclude yourself from this) idiots on the road that get me! Last thing I need is a self-righteous accident-waiting-to-happen-freakazoid trying to keep traffic BELOW the speed limit just so they can feel good about themselves...

I have a few buddie that are cops and I would like to trade them the general lee for their cruiser, just like in that commercial.

I personally don't care if the fuzz drives to fast.

Let me ask you this assuming that you are a partol officer. If you pull over someone with a FOP badge on their vehicle, how does that effect your interview?

I have seen them do it many times and I follow them and they are just going back and forth on the streets and not anywhere important. Of course I would do it too if I could.

If you could get away with speeding, you would also.

They are prety good around here. They might take the occasional privilege, but even when they are not in a rush they have a large area to patrol and not many cops to do it. Here they only flash their way through a light when there is no traffic the other way.
I'd rather them flash their way through a few lights and have an extra patrol done than have them sitting at the lights and not have them drive by as often.

About the FOP badge, it doesn't make a difference to me. I treat everybody the same when I talk to them. I don't lower myself to anyone, or try to be someone that I am not. I let the attitude of the person I am dealing with dictate my actions. If he is going to be nothing but rude, and physical towards me, I am going to throw ethics out the door and do what I need to do to go home. If someone is nothing but nice to me, I will be nice to them. When someone gets pulled over, it depends on why they got pulled over, if the get a ticket. For me to even want to pull someone over for speeding, they have to be going at least 10 mph over, so when i do pull you over, you're gonna get the speeding ticket, it just depends on how much i make the fine. If i pull you over for running a red light, you get the ticket no matter what. Just some more insight to this occupation.

I think for the most part they are fine. They put their life on the line potentially every day. I try to treat them with the respect they deserve, and they usually treat me that way also. Many cops have let me go , in part, because I did not have an attitude when they pulled me over.

With darned few exceptions, I'll always be a supporter of cops. For the CRAP that they have to put up with everyday, not only from the bad guys but the liberal anti-cops too, I will willingly cut them a lot of slack for minor trangressions. I give a friendly wave to just about every cop I see just to let them know they've got supporters out there. Not many people in this world are in a position to get shot dead every day in their normal job performance! Even soldiers aren't in danger every active day of their career.

My mom has worked for the FBI/Denver Police Dept. for over 25 years. I remember sitting behind the desk at HQ when I was little because she got called out to deal with somehting and her fellow brothers and sisters at the station would watch over me (threatened to lock me in a cell many times so I pretty much behaved  )

Anyway, I think most cops are good guys, but every group has a few bad apples that makes it hard for everyone else.

I always say, treat others with respect and you get respect back. Last time I got stopped for speeding the cop asked me if I knew how fast I was going and I honestly said, "I have no clue officer, but it must have been pretty fast." He said yeah, you were on it pretty hard, slow down ....have a nice day.

I was stunned. It pays to be nice to people.

Goodcop, next time I am in CS I will think of you and make sure I keep it under the radar :)

LOL!

Once I was riding my Ninja from Boulder to Colorado Springs on I-25, and a motorcycle cop pulled me over.

He told me that they had reports of me doing over 100 mph just south of Castle Rock (I think someone with a cellphone was PO-ed at me, or something).

I was stunned... I said, "Sir, I was speeding, but I was no where near 100!!" That was back before the 75 mph limit -- I was probably doing about 80 in a 65. Oops. But the highway was pretty empty.

He laughed, gave me a warning, and told me to take it easy. I did!

I think he probably had nothing really to cite me with... just an anonymous tip, so that was the reason I got the warning, but he was really cool about it.

When I was younger, I collected traffic tickets like baseball cards. All those times, I can only think of one officer who was a !@$#%er. That was a Denver PD traffic cop who pulled me over, right after I had graduated from college, got my first real job, and bought a new sports car. First thing he said to me was, "So, Sonny, out with Momma's car tonight, eh?!"

Bastard. In hindsight, I'm glad I played it cool, but sometimes I wish I'd said something to that guy!!

Glad I drive a Jeep, now, though. I haven't had a speeding ticket in six years!!!

I think a lot of them do. I see cops speed and roll through stop signs all the time. What I want to know is, can cops pull over other cops? Who's job is it to make sure these cops don't abuse their priviledges? Or is it anyone's job?

Be careful Tiff, I know what kind of car you drive!! j/k About pulling cops over, I don't think you really can. The best thing that you can do, is get the unit number or license plate of the cruiser, and call your local police substation and ask to talk to a duty sergeant, or watch commander. Most of the time they will just sweet talk you, but if you have a honest and legitimate complaint, they will listen to you. About the speeding thing, I give 10 mph over for all of you speed demons!!!

have you ever given a ticket for off-roading??? I got a ticket for dirving on a non-dust proof lot, even though it had been raining for 2 days straight. i was just wondering if I really deserved it or if the cop was just being an A$$??
